All our teachers are experienced professionals who have taken advanced teacher trainings, and continue to immerse themselves in the teachings and practice of yoga and movement. Having trained in a variety of styles, we offer a unique and holistic experience in the classes at YOGAYOGA. In addition to teaching classes in yoga, our YY teachers offer private yoga or yoga therapy sessions which are specifically designed to meet one’s individual needs. Yoga has the unique ability to address postural problems, and relieve back, shoulder, and neck pain through the applied practice of different asanas(postures) and breath awareness exercises(pranayama).
Nita Steketee is a certified 500 hr ECYT500 and 200hr ECYT200 teacher of Yoga and Meditation from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Nita started her yoga path with Javanese dance. This yogic movement is controlled, deliberate and at the same time serene in composure. It helps us to elevated our whole being. Her teachings in Yoga are rooted in these deliberate movements and aligned poses. The meditative serene quality found trough alignment is oriented toward self-understanding.
Nita teaches meditation, pranayama (breath control) and different styles of yoga: restorative yoga, yin yoga, therapeutic yoga, vinyasa yoga and the more advanced classic yoga classes.
She is the owner/founder of YogaYoga and before of YogaMonkey. She shares in her classes the knowledge given to her by her teachers. She is thankful for all the different aspects of yoga they shared with her. Her dog Tara, or Little One, accompanies her in all classes. She holds a master Degree in Fine Art and Design. She has her art studio in the back of the YogaYoga building.
Indira Abby Heijnen is a certified, 700 hr. teacher of Yoga, ECYT 200 Pranotthan Yoga, ECYT 200 Kripalu Yoga, ECYT 500 Sacred Lasya Vinyasa. She is an Acharya in the lineage of Swami Kripalu, having completed a year and quarter long study, “The Acharya Intensive” with Devarshi Steven Hartman and Jovinna Chan. Indira teaches a meditative slow flow yoga, emphasizing proper alignment and building core strength, as well as teaching posture alignment clinics and Yoga Basics classes. She assists Pranotthan Yoga Teacher trainings around the country.
Indira also offers Chakra Balancing and Healing Sessions (see our “Privates” section for more information).She is also a visual artist whose work is in collections in Europe and the U.S. She was born in New York City and has lived in Switzerland, Spain and The Netherlands, and has been living in Olivebridge, NY with her husband and artistic partner since 2001.
Yonah Schurink has a 500 hour Certification in Yoga and is also Certified as a Personal Fitness Trainer. Yonah teaches classes in Yoga to inspire and guide people towards enhanced health, vitality, and well-being. Inspired by the powerful effects of the bodymind connection, Yonah explores the capabilities of human potential through YOGA. She loves to take her students on a journey into the asanas in a gentle and joyful way, in celebration and gratitude for who we are in this form, at this level, in this moment. With fifteen years of experience in Iyengar, Kripalu, Jivamukti and Shivananda YOGA, she continues to deepen her knowledge and practice with ongoing interest.
Expanding upon a twenty-year career as a modern dancer and choreographer, Yonah followed her passion into the visual arts and a career as a professional photographer and painter. From a deepening interest in metaphysical nature, bioenergetics, and transformational experience, she entered the healing arts and the study of energy medicine, to complete certifications in Polarity and CranioSacral Therapy, Reflexology, and Reiki.
Jessica Barry has been practicing yoga for 18 years and became a 200hr ECYT200 Chakra Yoga Teacher in Thailand in early 2012. Her classes guide students through carefully constructed sequences that build strength and flexibility, as well as cultivate listening to the inner wisdom of the body. Jessica views yoga as a deeply personal experience that allows the individual to go inward to empower the mind, body, and spirit with inspiration, love, and compassion. When not teaching yoga, Jessica works in the world of renewable energy. She loves to travel, sing off key, and play in the woods.
Virginia Bocchicchio her yoga practice began in 2000, which coincided with her new career as a Licensed Massage Therapist and a decisive shift away from years of dance training. A dedicated home practice, continued education, self care and study, continue to be the backbone of her yoga practice. Her career as an LMT has enhanced her knowledge and understanding of the body/mind connection which further supports all aspects of Yoga. She have had the opportunity to study different styles of yoga with teachers of Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara and Vinyasa. She has been teaching since 2007, having been certified first through TRY4Life in Cleveland, Ohio at the 200 level, and then certified at the 500 level through Shakti Yoga in Woodstock NY.
Balance and stability through energetic opposites, along with careful alignment principles, assist in developing strength, steadiness and ease in any yoga practice. Yoga’s gifts of compassion, strength, love and understanding of self are there for all to give and receive.
Diane Miller A student of Betsy Ceva, Julie Lifton, Lynn Aubrey, and Charline Braden and graduate of Birchwood Center Teacher Training in Nyack, Diane Miller is Birchwood-certified in Gentle Yoga. It was the transformational and therapeutic effects that yoga has had in her own experience that encouraged Diane her bring this life-changing practice to others. Diane studies, serves, resides, and teaches philosophy at the Hudson Valley branch of the worldwide School of Practical Philosophy in Wallkill.
